Bands prepping for semi-state

With only three weeks remaining in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) marching season, both the Northview Marching Knights and Clay City Imperial Regiment are making their presence known.

In the sixth 2012 IndianaMarching.com poll, the Marching Knights moved up one spot in Class B to fourth-place.

Northview tallied 127 votes this week, including one first-place nod.

Greenwood is still the top band in the Class B poll with 141 votes, including four first-place votes.

Jasper is second with 138 votes (two firsts), followed by Concord (131 votes, three first-place nods).

Goshen ranks fifth behind the Marching Knights with 113 votes, followed by Northridge (99), Floyd Central (89), DeKalb (80), Plainfield (67) and Munster (67).

In the Class D poll, the Imperial Regiment cracked the top 10 for the first time this season.

Clay City earned 71 votes, good enough for ninth in the poll.

Forest Park is still the top-rated Class D band in the poll with 150 votes, including all 10 first-place votes.

Lewis Cass and Springs Valley are tied for second with 134 votes, followed by Paoli (122), Mater Dei (109), Monrovia (98), Southridge (86), Adams Central (82) and South Spencer (57).

Both the Marching Knights and Imperial Regiment have the week off from contests, but will return to action Saturday, Oct. 27.

The Marching Knights will compete in the Class B ISSMA Pike High School Semi-State event. The top 10 Class B bands will advance to the state finals.

Northview will perform at 2:44 p.m.

Other Class B bands set to perform include Bloomington North (1 p.m.), New Castle (1:13), Pendleton Heights (1:26), Plainfield (1:39), Whiteland (1:52), New Palestine (2:18), Greenwood (2:18), North Side (2:57), Plymouth (3:10), Goshen (3:49), Jasper (4:02), Floyd Central (4:15), East Noble (4:28), Concord (4:41), F.J. Reitz (5:07), DeKalb (5:20), Northridge (5:33), Elkhart Central (5:46) and Munster (5:59).

The Imperial Regiment will compete in the Class D ISSMA Franklin Community High School Semi-State event. The top 10 Class D bands will advance to the state finals.

Clay City will take the field at 2:31 p.m.

Other Class D band performing include Taylor (1 p.m.), Paoli (1:13), Eastern Greentown (1:26), Monrovia (1:39), Clinton Prairie (1:52), Elwood (2:18), Pioneer (2:44), Orleans (2:57), Crawford County (3:10), Springs Valley (3:49), Lewis Cass (4:02), Bluffton (4:15), Adams Central (4:28), Southridge (4:41), Mater Dei (5:07), Eastside (5:20), South Spencer (5:33), Bremen (5:46) and Forest Park (5:59).

Cost to attend either of the ISSMA semi-state sites is $7. Gates are set to open at both sites at noon.

The ISSMA State Finals are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
