Business past propels resident to run for post

Friday, October 26, 2012

John Nicoson (R), Center Point, is running for Clay County Council, At-Large, in the upcoming election.

Nicoson is retired from the coalmine industry after 27 years of hard work. He now runs his farm operation and manages his business investments.

Because of his expansive business past, Nicoson feels he is qualified for the position. He sees himself as a businessman due to his management skills.

Nicoson said he wants to help the county spend and manage its money in better ways.

"I'm oriented to do this kind of work," Nicoson, who wants to find less expensive options for the county commissioners, said. He feels, in the past, the county has spent its money in expensive ways for bridges, roads and the county highway department. He said he could find less expensive options.

Currently, Nicoson serves on the Sugar Ridge Township Trustees Board and is a trustee of the Saline City Non-Denominational Church. He has served as a trustee with various veterans' organizations. Nicoson is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War, a member of the Disabled American Veterans and has been a member of the American Legion for more than 40 years. Nicoson is also a 32nd degree mason.

Nicoson has lived in Clay County his entire life except for the time he served in the military. He said his family has lived in Clay County for more than 150 years.

The 2012 election is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
