Oregon Baptist Church to salute veterans with service Nov. 10

Sunday, October 28, 2012

Salute the Canteen!

During World War II, the canteen was a big deal.

Often, a local place to socialize with music and ladies, who were ladies, these locations were intended to give the military a safe place from base to get away.

Light refreshments and an early evening so you could make it back on base on time.

In honor of that tradition and to make people more aware of the issues of homeless, especially among veterans, Families by Choice has a fundraiser open to the entire community.

We will be at Oregon Baptist Church (three-fourths of a mile west on United States 41 on Oregon Baptist Church Road) Family Life Center on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, from 7-9:30.

Music will be provided by local musicians, including a veteran who was once homeless.

Light refreshments will be offered, too.

Persons coming alone will be charged a $20 donation.

Come with a friend and two can come for a donation of $25.

Those coming with military -- active or retired -- will get in at half-price.

For more information, call 812-230-4401.
