The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:


Peniel United Methodist Church, 9525 N. Kennedy Crossing Rd., Brazil, will not have its annual turkey/roast beef supper and bazaar this year.

Open House

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will conduct a free open house Nov. 1, at 8:30 a.m., at the YMCA of Clay County.

All males and females are welcome.

Waffle Brunch

The Owen County Art Guild will host a Belgian Waffle Brunch Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Cost is $5 per meal.

The meal will include the waffle, choice of toppings and beverages.

The event will take place at 199 W. Cooper St., Spencer.

All proceeds will go to the building fund.


The Brazil Church of the Nazarene, 1002 E. National Ave., Brazil, will conduct a Holiday Extravaganza, Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Fifteen-plus vendors will be on hand at the event, including Thirty-One, Avon, Mary Kay, Scentsy, Family Fudge, Lia Sophia, Pampered Chef, Set to a Tea, The Noodle House, Homemade Baked Goods, Ann Marie Designs (hair bows and more), Blessings Unlimited, Paparazzi Jewelry, The Old Brown Shed Spices, The Candle Shack and more.

Food will also be available at the event.

Fall Fest!

Fall Fest 2012 will take place Saturday, Nov. 3, from 3-7 p.m., at Christ Community Church, two miles north of Brazil on State Road 59.

Pumpkin Chunkin, chicken racing, lumberjack games and more will be available.

Bereavement Meeting

The Clay County Bereavement Support Group will conduct a meeting for anyone, no matter where they are in their grief journey, Monday, Nov. 5, from 10-11:30 a.m.

The meeting will take place at Grace Chapel, 2104 W. United States 40, Brazil.

The VNA Hospice of the Wabash Valley and French Family are co-sponsoring the meeting.

Parent Support Meeting

The Clay County Parent Bereavement Support Group will conduct a meeting Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Grace Chapel, 2104 W. United States 40, Brazil.

St. John's Church of Christ will have a soup and sandwich supper Friday, Nov. 9.

Barbecue, hot dogs, coney dogs, chili, chicken and noodles, ham and beans, cornbread and homemade desserts will be available from 5-7 p.m.

A bazaar/auction will follow at 7 p.m., with homemade quilted wall hangings, baby, quilt crafts, candies, holiday decorations and numerous other items.

St. John's Church of Christ is located on State Road 42 approximately five miles east of the intersection with State Road 59.

Quilt Show

The Union United Methodist Women will host their second quilt show Nov. 10, at Union United Methodist Church, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Admission is $1.

A baked potato bar will be available for a freewill donation, with pie and coffee costing $1 each.

There will be several items available for silent auction.

Quilts are currently being accepted for the exhibition.

There is no charge to exhibit a quilt.

Turkey Supper

The Cory Zion Church will have its 27th annual Turkey Supper Saturday, Nov. 10, beginning at 4 p.m., and concluding at 8 p.m.

The cost of the dinner is a freewill offering.

There will be a delivery service available for the Cory, Clay City, Center Point, Saline City and Riley areas.

Anyone wanting this service should call the church at 812-864-2720.

The church is located three miles south of Cory from State Road 46 or three miles west of State Road 59.

Everyone is invited to attend the event.


Clay Business Women, in partnership with Terre Haute Savings Bank, will present the 21st Reality Store at North Clay Middle School Monday, Nov. 12, from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

The event, "Leap Into The Future," is a virtual hands-on learning experience for North Clay and Clay City eighth-graders to give them a taste of what life will be like as adults.

Many community residents and leaders volunteer to help make the event a valuable experience for the students.

Veterans Program

Van Buren Elementary School will host a Veteran's Day program Monday, Nov. 12, at the school.

Veterans who have served in any branch of the United States Armed forces are welcome to attend the ceremony, which will feature the Jackson Township Community Band.

The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Veterans and spouses are invited from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., for a luncheon.

Meeting Moved

The November meeting for the Clay County Genealogical Society has been changed to Nov. 13, at 1 p.m., at the Genealogy Library in Center Point.

The slate of officers for the upcoming year will be presented.

All members are asked to attend.

Council Meeting

The Clay County 4-H Council meeting will take place at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the 4-H Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall.

All are welcome to attend the meeting.

Craft Time!

Those interested are invited to the Brazil Public Library Thursday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m., to make a winter snowman globe.

Those wishing to attend must pre-register and pre-pay by Nov. 9.

Cost to attend is $5. The event is open to the public.

Craft Fair

The Lady Volunteers of Staunton will host a Holiday Craft Fair Nov. 17, at the Staunton Community Center.

The event will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Spaces are available to rent.

Food will be available at the event, including traveling tacos, hot dogs, desserts and drinks.

Bake Sale

The Sisters of Providence will conduct a bake sale from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18, in the hallway outside of the Gift Shop at Providence Center, located at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Cookies, pies, breads, candy, jellies, cakes and more will be available.

All proceeds will benefit the sisters' ministries.

The Gift Shop will also be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
