He was born May 19, 1951, in Clinton, the son of Stanley and Fannie (Stultz) Newman.
He served his country in the United States Navy in the late 1960s.
Walter worked as an over-the-road truck driver for several years.
He had also worked as a short order cook at Mogger's Brewery as well as several other restaurants in Terre Haute.
Walt enjoyed playing the bass guitar.
He generously shared his musical talents at area nursing homes.
Two other passions in his life were cooking and fishing.
Many of the residents at the towers remember him for the fish fry's and community dinners that he would share and he was always willing to lend an ear.
He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Fannie Newman and infant brother Dennis Keith Newman.
Survivors include his brother John Newman and wife Mary, Clinton, sisters Debbie Pierce and husband Gene, Rose Ann Rogers (Keith Schell), Diamond, Ind., Mary Jo Archer and husband Dave, Brazil, as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Services will be at French Funeral Home Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at 7 p.m., with Rev. Harley Archer officiating.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday, from 4 p.m., until time of services.
