Lisa D. Rickert (R), Brazil, is running for Clay County Council, At-Large, in the upcoming election.
Rickert is currently a purchasing/MRO buyer at Scott's Pet Products, Rockville, where she has been employed for about one year.
"I am running for the office because I want to see improvements in the county," Rickert said. "I want to see more jobs come to Clay County. Right now, I have to drive 30 minutes to a good job."
Through her job, Rickert said she knows what it is like to have to purchase items on a budget to save money.
"I think my purchasing skills would come in handy, and I'm a good team player," she said.
Rickert used to be on the advisory board for Jackson Township/Owen County.
"I made decisions for the trustee on how to spend money," she said. "I helped make those decisions. As a taxpayer, I know the things I would like to see the council do."
If elected, Rickert has many goals for her time on the council.
"I want to bring more jobs into Clay County, and I'd like to see the I-70 area grow," Rickert told The Brazil Times. "I think we're on a good path with the water tower there, but we need to bring more businesses there and grow that area."
In regards to the county roads issue, Rickert said, "Everybody says roads, roads, roads. You can talk about roads all day, but you can't do anything without money. If there's money coming into the county, then we can do something about the roads."
Rickert has lived in Clay County for 25 years. She has also been married for 25 years. Rickert has three children and three grandchildren.
"We are on the right track, but I want to see the county improve," Rickert said.
The 2012 election is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
