Bowling Green bridge reopens

Friday, November 2, 2012

BOWLING GREEN -- The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced Friday that the bridge over the Eel River west of Bowling Green on State Road 46 was officially opened at 7 p.m., Friday.

George R. Harvey and Sons, Inc., Danville, completed the expedited repairs.

The bridge will be open to traffic. However, a weight limit of 19 tons has been placed on the bridge.

Signs displaying "Weight Limit 19 Tons," are posted on both sides of the bridge and at the intersections of State Road 59 and SR 46, State Road 246 and SR 46, plus in Spencer at United States 231 and SR 46.

Construction began during the first week of October.

The bridge was closed July 31 after structural engineers retained by INDOT recommended closing the bridge after identifying more corrosion in the structural steel than was previously documented.

Keeping the semi's from using it is going to be a full time job. The weight limit sign is placed after you turn east on s.r.46 from s.r. 59. Already made the turn I say they will go on over the bridge. The sign needs to be a flashing signs.

So in other words they are trying to say it is not fixed and it will get closed again soon. So don't plan on using it very long folks. Just another waste of money... Why not start to build a new one now and not wait till you have to close it down again and then decide what the next step will be. This is getting old quick INDOT!

Mike Pence says he'll lower taxes more than Mitch did. So don't count on Mike to fix this bridge. Don't count on Mike to fix anything.
