John Charles Burger I, 68, Brazil, passed away Nov. 2, 2012, at Union Hospital, with his family by his side following a brief illness.

John was born Jan. 21, 1944, the son of Forest and Mary (Hapenny) Burger.

John enlisted in the United States Army, where he was a part of 101st Screaming Eagles.

He did two tours in Vietnam amongst other places across the world.

John married the love of his life, Barbara Bruer, Nov. 13, 1970.

John worked at Great Dane as a Senior Maintenance Mechanic.

He retired from there in 1997. Following retirement, he worked in maintenance for many side jobs.

John enjoyed spending his free time working on anything mechanical and spending time with his grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents, and his granddaughter Shelby Burger.

He is survived by his sons Darrell Walton, Terre Haute, John Burger II, Brazil, daughter Kim Burger, Brazil, grandchildren Seth, Kelsy, Lindsay, Lauren, Paige, Peyton and Luke, sisters Phyllis Cole (Bill), Ohio, and Mary Beth Hill (Randy), Brazil, brother Bob Burger (Lois), California, along with many extended family and friends.

Service will be Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at 6 p.m., at French Funeral Home, with Pastor Jacob Raubuch officiating.

Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United States Army.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at 3 p.m. until time of service.
