Preparing for College and Careers students at Northview High School recently had the opportunity to practice the skills they have been learning in class. The course is an elective in the Family and Consumer Science department.

The class, taught by Michelle Burk, has been focusing on securing employment through professional presentation. Students created resumes and cover letters in the unit "Applying for a Job."

They also learned how to professionally present themselves during an interview. The class practiced responses to typical interview questions. Interview etiquette, including appropriate dress and body language, was also addressed.

Mock interviews were the culmination of the "Succeeding in the Interview" unit. Local business representatives interviewed students. At the end of the interviews, each interviewer told the class who they would hire and why they selected that student for the job. The students who secured the jobs received a Payday candy bar.

Local businesses participating were First Financial Bank with Kim Stearley and Sharon James, Walmart with Jessica Phillips, McDonald's with Denise Meadows and Clay Community Schools with Tom Reberger and Clint Weddle.
