Homicide victim identified as Terre Haute citizen

Thursday, November 8, 2012

VIGO COUNTY -- Vigo County Sheriff's Detectives identified the remains of a homicide victim found Nov. 3, in rural eastern Vigo County.

The deceased was identified through dental records as Allyson J. Elmi-Lewis, 39, Terre Haute.

A family member reported Elmi-Lewis missing Tuesday, Nov. 6, after seeing media reports about the homicide.

The family reported they had been unable to reach her recently and were concerned after hearing the description of the unidentified deceased female.

Elmi-Lewis' estranged husband, Enzert G. Lewis, 38, was interviewed by Vigo County Sheriff's Detectives and was arrested for violation of a No Contact order in which Elmi-Lewis was the victim.

Vigo County Coroner Roland Kohr determined through an autopsy Monday that Elmi-Lewis had died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

According to information provided by the Vigo County Sheriff's Department, Vigo County Sheriff Greg Ewing assembled a team of more than 20 investigators, calling on assistance from the Vigo County Prosecutor's Office, Indiana State Police, Clay County Sheriff's Department, the FBI, Indiana Department of Homeland Security and Vigo County Search and Rescue.

Ewing said the investigation is ongoing and is urging residents to come forward with information about Elmi-Lewis' death, and specifically her last known whereabouts prior to her death.

Any person with information should contact the Vigo County Sheriff's Department at 812-462-3226.

Those wishing to remain anonymous may call Wabash Valley Crime Stoppers at 812-238-STOP (7867).
