Jackson Township Elementary hosted more than 50 area Veterans at a program Friday Nov. 9, at 12:30.
The school presented a lunch for all Veterans and, additionally, gave them a small gift for attending.
Veterans' names were then read aloud, along with the names of the students who were hosting them that day.
Meridian Elementary also hosted a Veterans Day program Friday, Nov. 9, hosted by the Meridian student council.
The VFW read from a poem entitled "Old Glory" and gave a presentation on the colors in the American flag as well as the 13 folds of the American flag.
Meridian parent Josh Hayden, Petty Officer 2nd Class, a culinary specialist in the United States Navy, spoke in his daughter Ellie's third-grade classroom. He was able to share his experience in the Navy with Heidi Madsen's class.
The Jackson Township band performed several patriotic songs, including one song that included the anthem of each branch of the military. When a Veteran's branch's anthem was played, they were asked to stand to be honored during that time.
Several students read poems and information about Veterans Day, and the entire student body honored the Veterans by singing a special song of thanks.
Approximately 50 Veterans, family members and community members were present at Van Buren's event.
