The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Special Meeting

The Brazil Parks and Recreation board will meet for a special meeting Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 8:30 a.m. The board will meet in the Brazil City Hall council chambers. The public is invited to attend.

Meeting

The Clay County Commissioners will conduct a special meeting Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 10:15 a.m., in the Commissioner's Courtroom, in the Clay County Courthouse, 609 E. National Ave., Brazil.

The purpose of the meeting is to open quotes for bridges 155, 14 and 225; discuss the Havel Maintenance contract, the emergency management GIS Grant, the United Consulting Engineer Signage contract, discuss a change order for bridge 1, and approve specs for the highway department truck.

Deck The Streets!

Brazil Main Street is hosting a contest called Deck the Streets of Brazil this holiday season.

Area businesses will decorate their windows for the holidays. Participants will have posters, donated by Justin Haulk and A+ Printing, in their windows and cans inside to collect votes.

Community members are encouraged to vote for their favorite storefront window by casting a vote inside the business. Voting will take place from Nov. 12-23, ending at 5 p.m.

The winning business will be announced at the Christmas in the Park parade on Nov. 23. The winner will receive a trophy to display in their window.

Leaf Pickup

Associates of the Brazil City Garage will conduct leaf pickup throughout November and into December.

The following is the schedule for leaf pickup:

* Nov. 19-21 -- Additional piles will be picked up,

* Nov. 26-30 -- Northeast section of the city will be picked up, and

* Dec. 3-7 -- Northwest section of the city will be picked up.

Meeting Moved

The Forest Park Golf Board will not meet Monday, Nov. 19.

Typically, the golf board meets on the third Monday of each month, at the Forest Park Clubhouse.

However, its next meeting will be Monday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m., at the clubhouse.

Scheduled Meetings

The Clay County Local Emergency Planning Committee will conduct its regular 2012 meetings prior to the Clay County Fire Chief's Association at 6 p.m., with the chief's meetings at 7 p.m., during the following dates:

* Nov. 20 -- At the Posey Township Fire House.

Special Meeting

The Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety will conduct a special meeting Friday, Nov. 16, at 10 a.m., in City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

Coffee Talk

The Rotary Club of Brazil will host its monthly Coffee and Club Talk Friday, Nov. 16, from 6-7 p.m., at the Brazil Coffee Grounds Bakery and Coffee Shop.

The topic for the event is "The Foundation."

The club conducts the event the third Friday of each month, with the exception of summer months. It is hosted by Past President Susan Thomas.

The first regular cup of coffee is free to residents in attendance, courtesy of the Rotary Club of Brazil.

Craft Fair

The Lady Volunteers of Staunton will host a Holiday Craft Fair Nov. 17, at the Staunton Community Center.

The event will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Spaces are available to rent.

Food will be available at the event, including traveling tacos, hot dogs, desserts and drinks.

Antique Bottle And Pottery Show

The Wabash Valley Antique Bottle and Pottery Club will present the 15th Illiana Antique Bottle and Pottery Show and Sale Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Shadow Auction Barn, 1517 Maple Ave., Terre Haute.

Show hours are 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Admission is free.

There will also be a special event -- The Historical Bottle and Pottery Auction -- Friday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m.

Bake Sale

The Sisters of Providence will conduct a bake sale from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18, in the hallway outside of the Gift Shop at Providence Center, located at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Cookies, pies, breads, candy, jellies, cakes and more will be available.

All proceeds will benefit the sisters' ministries.

The Gift Shop will also be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Performance

The Brazil Concert Band will perform at the Scottish Rite Theater, located at 8th and Ohio Streets, Terre Haute, Sunday, Nov. 18, beginning at 3 p.m.

There is no cost to attend the concert.

Special Performance

The Angela Lilly Trio will perform at Staunton First Christian Church, 108 W. Columbus St., Staunton, Sunday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m.

The group will include featured accompaniment by Grayson Lilly.

Meeting Moved

The November meeting of K&H Sewer District has been changed to Tuesday, Nov. 20, due to Thanksgiving.

There will be a public hearing on the sewer rates at 7 p.m.

The regular business meeting of K&H will follow the hearing at 7:30 p.m.

Meetings take place in the Knightsville Community Building.

Chamber To Meet

The Clay County Chamber of Commerce will conduct its monthly luncheon meeting Tuesday, Nov. 27, at noon, at the Renaissance Reception and Conference Center.

The guest speaker will be Jim Albright, a former worker at Alcatraz.

In June 1963, Albright was the last guard to escort the last inmate off the island.

Rescheduled

The Clay County Redevelopment Commission has rescheduled its meeting for November.

The meeting will take place Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 6 p.m., at the Clay County Commissioner's Courtroom.

Hoop Shoot

The Brazil Elks Lodge 762 will host the Clay County Elks Hoop Shoot Dec. 1, at 10 a.m., at Eastside Elementary School.

Children interested in participating are asked to have their parents bring a copy of their birth certificate to help with paperwork needed for county winners who will compete in Rockville Jan. 20, 2013, at the District competition.

Food Giveaway

The Church of Our Lord Jesus will conduct a food giveaway Saturday, Dec. 1, from 1-3 p.m.

The event will take place at the church, 708 E. Hendrix St., Brazil.

Home Tour

The annual Tri Kappa Home Tour will take place from 1-5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2.

Tickets are on sale and are $5 in advance. Tickets may be purchased at the main branch of Riddell National Bank.

The ticket price the day of the event will be $7.

Clay County Day!

Clay County Day in Bradenton, Fla., will take place Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013.

The 34th reunion and luncheon will take place at PIER 22 Ballroom, formerly the Mattison's Riverside Ballroom.

Letters will be mailed to past attendees.

Due to the increase in postage, letters will not be sent to those who have not attended the past three years.
