Ethel Catherine "Catie" Drake, 77, Santa Maria, Calif., died Nov. 25, 2012, at her residence with her family beside her.

She had Multiple Myeloma for more than 20 years and fought it with everything she had.

She was born Oct. 29, 1935, in Rosedale, Ind.

She was the daughter of Charles W. and Mary Lucille McVey.

She married Owen Fredrick "Fred" Drake Dec. 11, 1954.

Fred and Catie lived in Brazil and Santa Maria, Calif., for many years.

She was also known as "Bobo" in her early years by family and friends.

Catie worked as an instructional aide at Nipomo Elementary School while her daughters attended there.

She owned and operated Drake's Grocery with her husband and daughters in Brazil.

Catie also owned two restaurants in Brazil (Sunshine Café and Sunshine Café II).

Everyone loved her wonderful home cooking and amazing pies.

Her last job was in California, cooking for a celebrity for four years before her health declined.

She loved listening to music and going to concerts (especially Engelbert Humperdinck).

She also enjoyed going to Las Vegas and the Chumash Casino.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Charles and Robert McVey, sister Marylou Aker (her partner-in-crime and best friend).

She is survived by sister Gertrude Wells, Brazil.

Catie was the best mom, grandma and greatma that anyone could ask for.

She loved her family more than anything in the world.

Survivors include her daughters Kim Drake, Tracy Coates, Fredricka Boetjer and son-in-law Gregg Boetjer, and Tammy Rhine and son-in-law Rod Rhine, all of Santa Maria, Calif., grandchildren Freddie Jo Larson and husband Tim Larson, Shawna Perez and husband Tim Perez, and Chris Coates, all of Santa Maria, Calif., Dusty Boetjer and wife Julie Boetjer, Riverside, Nick Boetjer, Woodland Hills, Seth Rhine and wife Michelle Rhine, North Hollywood, Katie Cornell and husband Joshua Cornell, Greenfield, Ind., and Samantha Rhine, Long Beach, great-grandchildren Nathalie and Drake Larson, Bailey and Owen Boetjer, Kendall and Grady Courtright, Broderick and Quinn Cornell and many other family members and friends who loved her.

There will be no visitation or services.

At her request, cremation will take place.

Arrangements are being handled by Magner Mahoney Funeral Home, Santa Maria, Calif.
