Three minutes into the high school basketball game Friday night, the Northview Knights took a 3-2 lead over the Terre Haute North Patriots on a Ethan Whitson basket. Everybody was pumped! The Black Hole pep block was going crazy.

But then the roof collapsed. The floor caved in and the party pooped.

North went on a 21-0 run over the final 4 minutes and 57 seconds of the first quarter and nearly 2 1/2 minutes of the second period.

Whitson hit another free throw with 6:16 left in the second period and Northview trailed 20-4. Whitson scored the Knights' first six points, because he netted the second field goal with 5:38 left in the opening half and North led 22-6.

Northview shot 35 percent (10-28) from the floor for the game and turned the ball over 17 times while falling to 0-2 on the young season.

"The best thing we can do, is going to be posed for us tomorrow night (at Brown County ) and that is to just keep playing," Northview coach Clint Weddle said.

Another thing Weddle noted about the Knights was their positive attitude after the game. "The most positive thing I'll take away from tonight is going in the locker room and not seeing a young man hanging his head," Weddle said.

Whitson led Northview's scoring with nine points.

North led 17-3 going into the second quarter and 38-17 at halftime. The Patriots outscored the Knights 18-6 in the third period to lead 56-23 going into the final eight minutes.

Continuing to play hard and attack, Northview outscored North 19-11 in the final quarter. The Knights hit 9-12 free throws and got threes from Joe Ball and Gabe Rogers.

Northview's freshmen earned a 43-30 win over Terre Haute North. The 3-1 Knights were led by Nathan Thomas with 12.

In junior varsity action, North topped Northview 45-25. Keegan Roembke led Northview with eight points.
