D. Bettsene Detzel, 89, Brazil, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Southwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, Terre Haute.

Bettsene was born March 12, 1923, in Brazil, the daughter of Bert Barrick and Elizabeth (Routt) Barrick Anderson.

Bettsene was a member of the Brazil High School class of 1941.

Following high school, she attended beautician school in Indianapolis and later received a license in cosmetology.

Bettsene married Clyde Detzel Jr., Aug. 10, 1952.

Bettsene was a beautician at the Beauty Nook in Twelve Points for many years and also in Brazil.

She had also worked as the beautician for Miller Memorial Chapel until her retirement in 1999.

She worked as the snack shop lady and teacher's aid at Brazil High School and in the cafeteria at Northview High School.

Bettsene was a member of the Bee Ridge Congregational Christian Church and the 7:30 Homemaker's Club.

She took great joy in playing the piano and decorating cakes.

She is preceded in death by her husband Clyde, parents Bert and Elizabeth Barrick, and brothers Gaylord Barrick, Edwin Barrick and Robert Anderson.

Bettsene is survived by her sisters-in-law Martha Barrick, New Hartford, N.Y., Mary Anderson, Brazil, and Virginia Mathis, Harmony, brother-in-law John Detzel and wife Charlotte, Terre Haute, as well as several nephews and nieces and extended family members.

Services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at 4 p.m., with Jeff Bridgewater officiating.

Burial will follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery. However, at her request, there will be no graveside services.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday, from 3 p.m., until time of services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bee Ridge Congregational Christian Church Building Fund.
