The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Special Meeting

The Clay County Council will conduct a special meeting Friday, Dec. 21, at 9 a.m., in the Commissioner's Courtroom, located in the Clay County Courthouse, 609 E. National Ave., Brazil.

The purpose of the meeting is for a second reading of Ordinance No. 22-2012.

Karaoke

The Clay County Senior Center, 120 S. Franklin St., Brazil, will host Mel's Karaoke Dec. 7, at 6 p.m.

Sandwiches and desserts will be served as a fundraiser.

Anyone wishing to sing may bring their own music.

The community is invited to attend. Those wishing to attend do not have to be senior citizens.

Harmony Meeting Notice

The last meeting of the month for the Harmony Town Council will take place Friday, Dec. 28, at the conclusion of the annual Christmas dinner for council and board members.

There will be no meeting in January 2013.

The first meeting for 2013 will take place at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the community center.

Special Meeting

The Clay County Commissioners will conduct a special meeting Thursday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m., in the Commissioner's Courtroom, located in the Clay County Courthouse, 609 E. National Ave., Brazil.

The purpose of the meeting is to award a quote to Tandem Truck.

Public Meeting

The City of Brazil will conduct a public meeting at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 6, at Brazil City Hall, 203 E. National Ave., Brazil.

During the meeting, the city shall open and publicly read all sealed proposals received for work related to maintenance for the city's well supply system, abandonment of an unused well and replacement of filter media at the water treatment plant.

Family Fun Night

Forest Park Elementary will host its annual Family Fun Night Thursday, Dec. 6, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Forest Park students and their immediate family members are encouraged to attend.

Christmas dinner will be served and students will have an opportunity to make Christmas craft projects. Santa and his reindeer will also stop by for a visit and to take pictures.

Theatre Performance

The Community Theatre of Clay County, Inc., will present "Christmas At The Lark: A Tapestry of Light," Dec. 6-8, at the Lark Theater.

A dinner buffet will be served at 6:30 p.m., each evening, with the show beginning at approximately 7:15 p.m.

Cost to attend is $25. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Breakfast With Santa

The YMCA of Clay County, 225 E. Kruzan St., Brazil, will host Santa Claus for breakfast Saturday, Dec. 8.

The annual Breakfast With Santa event will take place from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Those interested in attending will have the opportunity to visit with Santa Claus, enjoy free donuts and muffins.

Children in attendance will also be able to make a Christmas craft and color Christmas cards for local nursing homes, as well as receive a goodie bag.

The event is free and open to the public.

Bake Sale

The Fontanet Action Community Team will conduct a bake sale Saturday, Dec. 8, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Fontanet Action Community Team building.

Soup, sandwiches and beverages will be served.

Benefit

The Church of Nazarene, 1002 E. National Ave., Brazil, will host a benefit for local resident Brad Staley Saturday, Dec. 8.

Staley is suffering from cancer and is a member of the Jackson Street Wesleyan Church.

According to information provided by church members, Staley needs help to pay for medications and hospital bills.

A chili dinner is scheduled for 4 p.m., with music at 5 p.m. P150 and Firm Foundation will provide entertainment.

Freewill offerings will be taken.

Blood Drive

The Indiana Blood Center will host a blood drive in December in Clay County.

The event will take place Dec. 10, from 10 a.m.-noon, at Holly Hill.

Indiana Blood Center hosts hundreds of blood drives each month.

Knights Of Columbus Meeting

The Knights of Columbus' next meeting will take place at 7:15 p.m., Dec. 10, for Rosary. A meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m., at the Kennedy Crossing Bingo Center.

Park Board To Meet

The Brazil Parks and Recreation Board will conduct its monthly meeting Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 6:30 p.m., in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed, and the public is welcome to attend.

Meeting Set

The annual meeting of the Posey Township Clay County Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., will take place Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m., at the firehouse in Staunton.

The agenda will include the election of two membership directors and any other business may properly come before the meeting.

Board Of Works To Meet

The Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety will conduct a meeting Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m., in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed, and the public is welcome to attend.

City Council To Meet

The Brazil Common Council will conduct its regular monthly meeting Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m., in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

Housing Authority Meeting

The Brazil Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will conduct its monthly meeting at 9:45 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 13, at the offices of the Brazil Housing Authority, 122 W. Jackson St., Brazil.

Christmas Spectacular

The Northview High School Fine Arts Department will present its annual Christmas Spectacular Dec. 13, and Dec. 15-16.

Times are 7 p.m., for Dec. 13, and Dec. 15, and 2 p.m., for Dec. 16.

All seats are reserved and cost $6.

Tickets go on sale Dec. 6, and will be available every morning from 8 a.m.-noon, in the Northview Music Department.

A special holiday dinner with entertainment will be presented prior to the Saturday, Dec. 15, show.

Total cost for the dinner and a reserved seat for the show is $15.

Food Giveaway

The Church of Our Lord Jesus will conduct a food giveaway Saturday, Dec. 29, from 1-3 p.m.

The event will take place at the church, 708 E. Hendrix St., Brazil.

Clay County Day!

Clay County Day in Bradenton, Fla., will take place Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013.

The 34th reunion and luncheon will take place at PIER 22 Ballroom, formerly the Mattison's Riverside Ballroom.

Letters will be mailed to past attendees.

Due to the increase in postage, letters will not be sent to those who have not attended the past three years.

Informational Meeting

In 2013, Habitat for Humanity of Clay County plans to build a new home with a Clay County family partner.

The home will be located at 703 S. Chicago Ave., Brazil.

All Clay County families who are interested in applying for the next Habitat home must attend the informational meeting, scheduled for Jan. 17, 2013, at 6:30 p.m., at the Linking Education to Adults, Adolescents and Preschoolers (LEAAP) Center.

Applications will only be available at the meeting.

Qualifications and requirements will be discussed.

The partner family will help build the home and pay a 20-year no-interest loan for the home.

Career Fair

The United States Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons will host a Veterans Career Fair Jan. 28, 2013, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at FCC Terre Haute, 4700 Bureau Rd., S. Terre Haute, 47802, just behind Honey Creek Mall.

Recruiters and members of the Affirmative Action Committee will be available to assist with the application process and to answer questions about benefits and qualifications.
