Rotary to feature economist

The Rotary Club of Brazil will host American economist Morton J. Marcus at its Dec. 12 luncheon.

All luncheons take place at The Renaissance Reception and Conference Center, 101 W. National Ave., Brazil.

The luncheon is scheduled to begin at noon. The event is open to the public.

Marcus was director of the Indiana Business Research Center of Indiana University's Kelley School of Business for more than 30 years, having retired from Indiana University in November 2003.

Marcus also writes a weekly column titled, "Eye on the Pie," that is printed in more than 30 newspapers in the Midwest. He has published his column since 1990.

According to information provided by the Rotary Club of Brazil, Marcus "researches changes in the economy and population of Indiana, the Midwest and the nation."

Marcus served as a Governor's liaison to the United States Bureau of the Census from 1979-2003.

He is internationally recognized as an expert on regional economies.

Marcus is an occasional guest on the PBS show, "News Hour," with Jim Lehrer.

He is also the creator and host of "Intersection," a weekly television program in Northwest Indiana.

Marcus also served as president of the Midwest Business Economics Association, Indiana Academy of the Social Sciences and the Association for University Business and Economic Research.

In addition, Marcus is the author of "Tightrope to Tomorrow," a book about pensions, productivity and public education.
