The Knights won matches against Terre Haute North, South Vermillion and then squeezed past a banged up Plainfield squad for a 3-2 mark in the dual match format. Martinsville posted a 5-0 mark with Terre Haute South winning four of its five matches on the Knights' home mats. Plainfield, which lost several wrestlers due to injury during the tourney, was 2-3 on the day, South Vermillion was 1-4 and Terre Haute North was 0-5.

A pair of Knights went 5-0 in the tourney as Justin Sampson remained unbeaten this season by going 5-0 at 285 pounds and Zach Williams also finished the day 5-0 at the 220-pound weight class.

"I was pretty proud of Zach (Williams) today," Northview coach Dan Mikesell said. "He made a commitment this summer to get down to 220 (pounds). He did it and it is paying off. He's on weight and actually maybe a little underweight. He's feeling good and he wrestled tough and wrestled smart."

Williams wrapped his afternoon with a victory against the Quakers' Ernesto Mariscal via fall in just 1:00.

Sampson finished up his afternoon in style by putting Plainfield's Cameron Lusk on his back for a fall in just 19 seconds.

"Justin just continues to get better, he's been working on his shot and it saved him in a couple of matches," Mikesell said. "This time last year he was pretty close to the same, but he's winning by a much bigger margin against some of these kids this year."

Those two falls helped the Knights put the Quakers away in a tight, 36-34 match as Northview benefited from four victories by forfeit.

In a 43-26 victory against the Patriots, Shane Ryan started the match off with a 2-0 decision for the Knights and Trance Kelley had a big victory after falling behind by a 7-2 score. Kelley was able to put Austin Bishop on his back and earn a fall in 3:31.

Trey Boor picked up a victory by fall in 1:06 over Sean Elia at 145 pounds, but North took the next three matches, two by fall and one by technical fall to build a 26-15 lead.

Foster Buell received a forfeit win at 182 pounds and both Jesse Miller and Williams received forfeits as Northview re-took the lead.

Sampson won an 8-0 major decision at 285 and Cale McCoy sealed the victory with a forfeit win.

Earlier in the day, the Knights got pins from Stephen Gibson, Miller, Williams and Sampson in gaining a 39-30 win over South Vermillion. The Knights won the final three weight classes by fall to overcome a 30-21 deficit. Trance Kelley won by decision for the Knights.

Afterwards, Mikesell noted that there is room for improvement in his team after seeing some solid competition.

"Yeah it's okay. There are a couple things I think we could have been better at today. I really thought we'd be closer to Terre Haute South than we were. We just had a couple of kids that we thought would win that didn't," Mikesell said. "We just made some goofy mistakes through inexperience and maybe lack of strength here and there. It was good competition, there are some good teams here. Some of our kids had a real wake up call where they are truly at maybe with the competition.

"I just think some of our younger guys have to figure some things out and rise to the level of competition," Mikesell added. "It's just some growing pains for some of the kids that don't have as much experience and maturity."

The Knights will be back in action on Wednesday at Edgewood beginning at 6 p.m.
