Taking place once a month, Giving Back Wednesdays allows Meridian teachers to serve in the dining room of Wendy's on National Avenue in an effort to give back to the community.
Teachers serve by cleaning up the dining area, throwing away trash and interacting with people who come in.
Portions of the money made that evening go to Meridian, and each month a different teacher is selected to receive the money to use in their classroom.
This month, Giving Back Wednesday at Wendy's took place on Dec. 12, and part of the money earned went to Lesa Miller, a resource teacher at Meridian who teaches special education.
Miller, who has been teaching at Meridian for 10 years, said the money could be used to help buy school supplies, classroom supplies and other necessary items for the classroom.
Miller plans to use the money earned to buy special project kits for her students.
"It's really nice that Wendy's gives some of the money earned to our school," Miller said. "It's also good for students to come here, have a meal and see their teachers doing something outside of school. The teachers also support one another by coming out."
