A handful of vehicle thefts have caused concerns for residents within Clay County in recent days.
According to Staunton Town Marshal Chuck Jones, two instances took place off Pleasant Street in the town during a three-day span.
Jones told The Brazil Times a radio/CD player, along with speakers, were taken out of one vehicle. In addition, he said a full toolbox was taken out of another.
"We haven't had a rash of them," Jones said, referring to vehicle break-ins, "but at this time of year, it seems like it picks up. Ours have been kind of isolated."
"(Residents) should keep their vehicles locked year-round, not just at Christmas."
According to Jones, these were the only break-ins he was aware of in the Town of Staunton.
Officials with the Clay County Sheriff's Department, however, told The Brazil Times there have been other vehicle thefts within the county in recent days, but they considered the thefts random.
Still, Jones said he wanted to remind residents to keep their items locked up with Christmas just right around the corner.
"We're always going to have burglaries," Jones said. "We just want everybody to double check their sheds and their cars to make sure they're locked."
