"I think it's important to remember that God is involved in our lives and often uses other people -- or even angels --to protect us from harm," Stark said of why she wrote the story. "I just wanted to remind people that even with all of the bad things that happen in this world, God still loves us and cares about what happens to us."
"An Angel in a Yellow Buick" tells the story of Stark getting lost in a rough neighborhood. After trying to turn around on a dead end road, several teenagers came toward her car. One had a weapon and Stark couldn't get past them without hitting one of them. Suddenly, a yellow Buick showed up and led Stark to safety.
"That night was one of the scariest nights of my life," Stark told The Brazil Times. "I really thought something bad was going to happen to me, and when I realized I was safe, I was overwhelmed with gratitude to God. He protected me and kept me safe that night, and I've never forgotten it."
The former teacher is now a stay-at-home mom of five and a freelance writer. She has been published in more than 20 Chicken Soup for the Soul series.
