The following is a list of upcoming area events as provided to The Brazil Times:

Ice Fishing

Jack's Live Bait and Tackle will host its first 2013 Ice Fishing Contest.

The contest will begin Friday, weather permitting.

Those taking part are asked to bring their largest crappie or blue gill to the place of business.

The winner will receive a prize.

City Council

A regular meeting of the Brazil Common Council will take place Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m., in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

Board of Works

A regular meeting of the Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety will take place at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, in Brazil City Hall Council Chambers.

General business will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

Food Pantry Information

Catholic Charities will continue bringing the mobile food pantry to the Bowling Green Community Building in 2013.

The food pantry will take place the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m.

The January date for the food pantry is Jan. 8.

No requirements are necessary, other than those who are in need of additional food.

Meeting Change

The Clay County Humane Shelter Board will now conduct meetings at Brazil City Hall.

Regular board meetings will be from 6-7 p.m., with membership meetings from 7-8 p.m., each month, during the third Monday beginning in January.

Auditions

The Community Theatre of Clay County, Inc., will conduct auditions for its upcoming Young Actors' performance of "Oz" this week.

Auditions for the production will be Thursday, at 5:30 p.m.

Auditions will take place at the Lark Theater, 8 E. National Ave., Brazil.

All children ages 6-15 who attend auditions will receive a part.

Group auditions will include singing and speaking as a group.

Anyone interested in performing a solo audition is welcome.

The production of the musical will take place Feb. 15-17.

On The Radio!

WCLS 97.7-FM will broadcast the Northview High School boys' and girls' basketball games against the Owen Valley Patriots Friday, Jan. 4.

The games will also be broadcast on www.wclsfm.com.

Time For Crafts!

All are invited to the Brazil Public Library Thursday, Jan. 17, at 6 p.m., to make an icy all-weather plastic baggie wreath.

Cost for the craft event is $1.

Those interested in attending must be pre-paid and pre-registered by Jan. 15.

Clay County Day!

Clay County Day in Bradenton, Fla., will take place Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013.

The 34th reunion and luncheon will take place at PIER 22 Ballroom, formerly the Mattison's Riverside Ballroom.

Letters will be mailed to past attendees.

Due to the increase in postage, letters will not be sent to those who have not attended the past three years.

Informational Meeting

In 2013, Habitat for Humanity of Clay County plans to build a new home with a Clay County family partner.

The home will be located at 703 S. Chicago Ave., Brazil.

All Clay County families who are interested in applying for the next Habitat home must attend the informational meeting, scheduled for Jan. 17, 2013, at 6:30 p.m., at the Linking Education to Adults, Adolescents and Preschoolers (LEAAP) Center.

Applications will only be available at the meeting.

Qualifications and requirements will be discussed.

The partner family will help build the home and pay a 20-year no-interest loan for the home.

Community Dinner

The Lady Volunteers of Staunton will host a community dinner at the Staunton Community Center Friday, Jan. 18, from 4-7 p.m.

The meal will consist of beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, dinner rolls, dessert, coffee, tea and lemonade.

Cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children 10-under.

All proceeds benefit the community center.

Career Fair

The United States Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons will host a Veterans Career Fair Jan. 28, 2013, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at FCC Terre Haute, 4700 Bureau Rd., S. Terre Haute, 47802, just behind Honey Creek Mall.

Recruiters and members of the Affirmative Action Committee will be available to assist with the application process and to answer questions about benefits and qualifications.
