Opal M. Grigsby, 83, Brazil, passed away Jan. 3, 2013, at home with her family by her side following a lengthy illness.

She was born Feb. 4, 1929, the daughter of John and Viola "Ollie" (Lanham) Bemis. Opal married Clyde Grigsby Sr., Feb. 21, 1948. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1989. Opal worked at Mallory's in Greencastle for 26 years before retiring in 1991.

Opal enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, taking walks and working outside.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Ollie Bemis, husband Clyde Grigsby Sr., two children in infancy Marilyn Kay Grigsby and Larry Eugene Grigsby, four sisters Bertha Buffington, Wilma Holt, Katie Head, and Donna Sutherland, a brother John Robert Bemis, a son-in-law Joseph Woolery, three great- grandchildren Joseph Edmonson and twins Darian and Hunter Wilkins as well as a great great-grandchild Christian Norton.

She is survived by 4 daughters Linda Pierce (Daniel), Dianna Edmonson (Tony), Sharon Gonser (Rick) and Phyllis Quinn and an adopted daughter Elaine Staley (Brad) all of Brazil, a son Clyde Grigsby Jr., three sisters Margaret Jenkins, Agnes Kirk and Phyllis Edwards (Robert), two brothers Jack Bemis (Mary), Otie Bemis (Linda) and two very special nieces Teresa Woolery and Debbie Cox as well as 18 grandchildren, 54 great-grandkids and 15 great-great-grandkids as well as many extended family members.

Services will be at French Funeral Home, Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at 3 p.m., with Brad Staley officiating. Burial will follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday from 1 p.m., until time of services. Visit www.frenchfuneralhome.com to light a candle in her memory.
