The Brazil Times recently welcomed Jeanne Burris as its new General Manager.

"I am truly blessed to be able to work in Clay County after five years (away), being in the surrounding counties," Burris said recently.

Burris grew up in Clay County, but was born in Marion, Ohio. Her family moved to Brazil when she was a child after her father was transferred to the Marion Brick Corporation office in Brazil.

Burris graduated from Van Buren High School.

She spent more than 20 years in the modular housing industry in addition to three years in the jewelry industry.

She has an extensive retail and marketing background.

Burris has been married to her husband Bruce for more than 30 years. The couple has two children: Son Tracee, who is in the United States Army, and daughter Sonni.

In addition, the couple has a granddaughter.

Times' Senior General Manager Chris Pruett said he is thrilled to be working with Burris.

"Jeanne has lived in Brazil for many years and she knows Clay County," Pruett said. "She has a love for the community and wants the community to prosper. Her enthusiasm for Clay County was one of the first things that caught my attention during our initial interview for her new position.

"Jeanne will bring some fresh and exciting ideas to The Brazil Times. She understands the newspaper's role in the community, and what it takes for the newspaper to be successful. She will accomplish her goals with a positive attitude and a fair approach to leading her staff. I'm excited to watch Jeanne grow as a General Manager and Advertising Director."

Overall, Burris said she is excited to be in the new position and looking forward to becoming part of The Times' team.

"I'm blessed to be a part of The Brazil Times' team," she said. "I'm looking forward to reacquainting myself.

"The newspaper, in my opinion, is the heart of a community. My interest has always been here."
