CLAY CITY -- The Clay City girl's basketball team went nearly three weeks between games after its holiday trip to the Eastern (Greene) Toby Yoho Tourney was canceled due to weather after Christmas. On Monday night, Owen Valley, playing its third game in six days, was the aggressor in gaining a 47-27 victory on the Eels' court.

The Eels hadn't seen an opponent in another colored jersey since a win on Dec. 18 against Cloverdale. The Patriots meanwhile won their sixth straight contest and third in the new year.

After falling behind 23-10 at halftime, Clay City climbed back within six points before Owen Valley posted a 14-5 edge in the final period to garner the win.

The Eels got 16 points from Alisha Steward, but no other Clay City player scored more than three points. Owen Valley junior guard Alicia Wilson led her team with 18 points.

Clay City's junior varsity team started the evening off right with a 28-20 victory.

The Eels (5-7 overall, 2-3 SWIAC) return to action on the road for a conference match-up at Bloomfield on Thursday night at 6 p.m.
