Brazil Police Department

The Brazil Police Department investigated two accidents during Jan. 7-8:

* At approximately 12:44 p.m., Monday, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Mechanic and Alabama streets for a two-vehicle accident.

According to officers, Bertha J. Withers, 70, Brazil, stated she had stopped at the intersection, looked both ways and did not see a vehicle driven by Megan L. Tabler, 27, Brazil, approaching.

Withers stated se though the pillar for the front windshield was obstructing her view. Withers said she pulled out and hit Tabler's vehicle as Tabler was going through the intersection.

Officers stated Tabler said she was driving northbound on Alabama Street and as she was driving through the intersection of Alabama and Mechanic, Withers pulled out and struck the front driver corner of her vehicle.

Tabler told officers she was unable to avoid the collision.

Estimated total damage was at $2,501-$5,000, and

* At 5:23 p.m., Tuesday, officers were dispatched to Union Street and United States 40 for a two-vehicle accident.

According to officials, Darla S. Campbell, 73, Brazil, stated she had looked both ways before pulling on U.S. 40, but did not see a vehicle driven by Margaret Paugh, 42, Brazil, because the sun was in her eyes.

Officers stated Paugh said she had pulled out from Union Street eastbound on U.S. 40 and had already began traveling east when she was struck by the vehicle driven by Campbell, who had pulled onto U.S. 40 from Jackson Street.

Estimated total damage was at $10,000-$25,000.
