On Tuesday, the Brazil Parks and Recreation Board officially elected officers for 2013.

Ruthann Jeffries was elected to remain board president, while Todd Brackman will serve as vice president.

Linda Messmer will also remain the board's treasurer.

Meanwhile, Brazil Mayor was in attendance and re-appointed Brackman to his position, in addition to appointing Tokie Kesler to the board.

Kessler -- a lifelong Brazil resident -- replaces Caroline McCullough, who retired at the conclusion of 2012.

Kessler will also serve as the board's secretary.

"We're really lucky to have you," Wyndham said. "Taking care of our parks is not an easy task. We know you'll all do very well. Thank you for getting involved.

"We appreciate everything you do. We've got a great park board. We've got a good group here."

Park Superintendent Bill Houck said Kesler was a welcome addition to the board.

Houck explained in the past, Kesler has taken it upon herself to help spruce up Forest Park by planting flowers around the park pool, his office and the tennis courts, among other places.

In other news, Houck told the board the old toilets at Forest Park were removed and new ones were recently installed.

In regard to unfinished business from 2012, Houck said some of the security cameras at Forest Park are not working correctly. Brackman stated he planned to look into the situation as soon as possible.

In new business, the board tabled an issue regarding placing new bathroom facilities at Craig and Wheeler parks in addition to the Forest Park pool.

Houck also mentioned he was interested in repairing the doors at the Forest Park Comfort Station.

The board also discussed contracts with organizations that use the park for annual events.

The park board meets regularly on the second Tuesday of each month at Brazil City Hall. Its next meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 12.
