Brazil Police Department

Officers with the Brazil Police Department investigated the following accidents recently:

* On Friday, Jan. 11, at 10:29 a.m., officers were dispatched to National Avenue and Cass Street for a two-vehicle accident.

According to reports, Timothy Brunette, 44, Knightsville, stated he was westbound in the turn lane when a vehicle in front of him stopped short to make a left-hand turn.

Brunette stated he applied his brakes, but they failed. He then said he swerved to the right to avoid colliding with the vehicle in front of him and did not see a second vehicle next to him.

Brunette said he then struck the second vehicle, driven by Janet L. Svobda, 49, West Terre Haute, knocking the vehicle into a curb, which caused undercarriage damage to the vehicle.

Svobda stated she was also westbound on National Avenue when the vehicle driven by Brunette swerved from the turn lane into the side of her vehicle, knocking into a curb, causing the damage.

Estimated damaged was totaled at $2,501-$5,000,

* On Thursday, Jan. 10, at 11:22 a.m., officers were dispatched to an alleyway off Washington Street for a two-vehicle accident.

According to reports, Mitchell J. Quick, 56, Brazil, stated he was backing out of his drive, which is connected with an alleyway, when he struck a vehicle driven by Justin T. White, 21, Brazil.

Quick said he was backing out of his drive traveling northwest and stated his barn, which is located near the alleyway, blocked or obstructed his view as he was backing out.

According to the report, White said he was driving straight traveling north down the alleyway when he was struck by Quick's vehicle.

White said he did not have enough time to react to Quick's vehicle backing out.

Quick's vehicle struck White's in the front passenger side. Quick's vehicle had damage to the rear passenger side and to the rear bumper.

Estimated total damage was $2,501-$5,000.
