Don R. Garrison, 81, Brazil, passed away Jan. 16, 2013, at 2:10 p.m., at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born July 18, 1931, in Jenson, Ky., the son of Ray Garrison and Norma Williams Garrison. Following graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served in the military for 25 years, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant.
Don completed his degree in business management at Indiana State University after his Air Force years. Following retirement from the service, he began a career with the Brazil Housing Authority. During his time with the Authority, West Central Village was built as well as other apartments and Section 8 housing was implemented.
Don and his first wife Carolyn were very proud parents of Don "Donnie" Garrison, Jr., and they were his biggest sports fans. Don was very proud of his son and cared for him in their home until his death Aug. 15, 2003. He also cared for his wife at home until her death June 30, 2004. They were members of the First United Methodist Church. Don was a member of the American Legion Post #2.
On Jan. 7, 2005, he married Barbara Phillips Garrison. Together they have enjoyed traveling to Alabama and sharing their love for "Nikki," their schnauzer.
Survivors include wife Barbara, sister-in-law Brenda Underwood and her husband Tim, Staunton, and special friend of the family Robert Dennany.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Donnie and late wife Carolyn.
At his request, cremation will take place and ashes buried at Clearview Cemetery with his family. Also, it was his request for no services to take place. Services were entrusted to French Funeral Home. Light at candle in his memory at www.frenchfuneralhome.com.
