Eels and Knights split non-conference games

CLAY CITY -- The Clay City Eels struggled from the free throw line in Saturday's non-conference tilt with Brown County, but was able to come away with a 55-48 victory over the Eagles.

The Eels were just 7-of-14 from the charity stripe, but was able to make a strong third quarter hold up in gaining the victory. The Eagles had a chance to tie with just over two minutes remaining in the game, trailing by three points, but missed three shots on one possession and Clay City was able to put the game away.

The Eels got 16 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds from Blake Cesinger to go with three steals. Josh Miller provided 12 points and five rebounds with Trevor Singer adding nine rebounds, two blocks and six points. Logan Cesinger had nine points and three boards.

Brown County was led by 24 points from Steven Norman and 16 from Tony Goral.

The Eels (8-6) overall, travel to North Daviess on Friday for a SWIAC contest.

Evansville North 54, Northview 43

In a Saturday evening contest, the Northview Knights were even with visiting Evansville North after one quarter of action, but the Huskies controlled the middle two quarters to gain the victory.

Evansville North's full-court pressure helped spark the Huskies to a 13-4 advantage in the second quarter on the way to the 54-43 win in a non-conference battle.

Ethan Whitson provided 12 points, Jim Mace had 11 and Craig Peters had six for the Knights. Devin Clark and Joe Ball each had three with Christian Ellis, Jacob Harden and Daniel Kimball scoring two points each.

Austin Elmore had 12 points and four blocks for the Huskies as Jaylen Chambers added 10.

In the JV contest, the Huskies squeaked out a 42-40 victory despite 12 points from Nate Newton and seven from Kelly Hawkins. Mark Underwood, Keegan Roembke and Jacob Harden each had five points. Hunter Ragan's four points and Gaddis Baysinger's two rounded out the scoring.

The varsity boys (6-9 overall) host Sullivan in a key conference match-up on Friday with the girls' varsity tipping off at 6 p.m.
