Brazil Police Department

The Brazil Police Department recently investigated three accidents:

* At 1:01 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Logan and Meridian streets for a two-vehicle accident.

According to reports, Janice Stuerwald, 16, Clay City, was with a driving instructor through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Brazil. Stuerwald told officers she was allegedly parallel parking next to a vehicle owned by Pamla R. McMains, Brazil, when the instructor told her to get closer to the side of the road. Stuerwald then said when she began to back up again, her passenger side mirror hit the driver side mirror of McMains' vehicle.

Estimated total damage was under $1,001,

* At 5:10 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, officers were dispatched to United States 40 and Manatee Street for a two-vehicle accident.

According to reports, Andrew P. Thomas, 52, Brazil, told officers he was eastbound on U.S. 40, stopped in traffic to turn left onto Manatee Street. Thomas then said he was motioned to proceed by another motorist and as he began his turn, his vehicle struck a vehicle driven by Terrie L. Anderson, 63, Terre Haute.

According to reports, Anderson told officers she was traveling westbound in the driving lane when Thomas' vehicle allegedly suddenly turned into the path and struck her vehicle. Anderson's vehicle then collided with a stop sign located at the intersection.

In addition, a witness at the scene allegedly told officers he was stopped in traffic facing westbound when he left space for Thomas' vehicle to make the turn. According to the witness, Thomas then attempted to make the turn, but struck Anderson's vehicle, which was passing the witness, and

* At 10:40 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, officers were dispatched to a vehicle accident at Cass and Pinckley streets.

According to reports, officers were informed by a witness that while they were sitting inside their home, they heard a vehicle crash into another vehicle owned by Sheri L. Epple, Brazil.

According to the witness, he looked outside of his home and saw a vehicle had crashed into the other. The witness told officers that he attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, which left the scene.
