Herbert was born Nov. 27, 1923, the son of Herbert Daniel Newport Sr. and Alice (Burns) Newport in Owen County. Herbert was a truck driver for most of his career where he retired from PFT. He also worked for Harry Lee Grain and John Deere Newberry among many other jobs. He married the love of his life, Vivian Imogene (Stantz) Newport, on Dec. 19, 1943.
Herbert was a member of the Nazarene Church in Brazil and the Eel River Coon Hunter's Association. In his free time he enjoyed driving a truck and playing Bingo with his wife. He also enjoyed auctions and race cars, but most of all, he was an avid coon hunter.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vivian, son Ronnie, grandsons Robert Wayne Newport, Bobby Wayne Newport and sister Betty Stantz.
He is survived by his sons Robert Newport (Evelyn), Clay City, Mike Newport (Lisa), Clay City, Randy Newport (Angie), Brazil, daughters Charlotte Dinn (Dave), Lyons, Ind., Kelly Moore (Bill), Brazil, daughter-in-law Teryl Newport, Yakima, Wash., brother Forrest Newport (Charlotte), Brazil, sister Margie Cripes, Brownsburg, 36 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members.
Service will be Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at 1 p.m., at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Deeter officiating. Burial will follow at Fiscus Cemetery.
