The Clay County Sheriff's Department recently welcomed two new deputies.

Kade Baker, 22, Brazil, was a 2009 graduate of Northview High School.

He received an associate's degree from Rendlake College in southern Illinois and is working on his bachelor's degree at Indiana State University.

He was a reserve officer for the Brazil City Police Department for one year.

"I enjoy interacting with people and helping out the community," Baker said of why he wanted to work with the Clay County Sheriff's Department.

Baker was officially sworn in on Dec. 31.

Chris Fisher, 26, Rushville, was officially sworn in on Nov. 30.

He began as a reserve officer for the Brazil City Police Department in 2010.

He has been a paramedic since 2008.

"This is a very strong department, and I wanted to be a part of it," Fisher said. "I also wanted to interact and help the public."

Fisher graduated from Rushville Consolidated High School in 2005.

Both of the new deputies will go to the Police Academy in April for four months. Currently, they are riding along with a field training officer until they are ready to patrol on their own. Both men will be road deputies.
