Bob was born April 27, 1932, in Clay County, the son of Earl and Elizabeth Raybold Carter.
Bob graduated from Van Buren High School.
Following high school, he served in the United States Air Force from 1950-54.
He attended and was a member of Ebenezer Church.
On Dec. 10, 1960, he was united in marriage to Laura Lynch Carter and together they raised their family in Brazil.
She preceded him in death March 1, 2006.
Bob worked for Peabody Coal Company and then for AMAX Coal, retiring in 1984.
He has always loved following sports, whether Indiana University basketball, Colts' football and most importantly, watching his children and grandchildren when they played ball.
He enjoyed woodworking and had artistic talent in the past, and has always been "tech savvy."
He communicated with nursing staff and family daily by texting.
Survivors include his children Kathy Sawrie and husband Dave, McCordsville, Teri Chamberlain and husband Jeff, Shawn Carter and wife Toni, Robert "Rob" Carter and wife Kim, and Chris Carter and wife Rhonda, all of Brazil, grandchildren Ryan Sawrie and wife Katie, Kevin Sawrie, Travis Sawrie and wife Sara, Keenan Chamberlain and wife Laura, Devon Chamberlain and wife Jenae, Taylor Carter, Brett Carter and Jack Carter, Kade Carter and Ellie Carter, sisters Peggy Pierce Elwell (Ted), and Patty Williams (Harold), several nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Laura Carter, and sister Betty Skitt.
Services will take place Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m., at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., with Pastor Tim Russell officiating.
At his direction, cremation will take place with burial at a later date at Old Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, from 4-7:30 p.m.
