Students perform well in ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest

The Indiana State School Music Association Solo and Ensemble contests recently took place at various locations.

Members of the Northview High School band competed at Terre Haute North High School.

Their ratings included: Brittany Ray (clarinet), Gold; Joey Dierdorf (clarinet) Gold; Thomas Champion (clarinet) Gold; Zene Colson (tenor saxophone) Gold; Rebecca Rudisell, Connor Hapenny, Kaelyn Shouse, Kayla Tolbert (clarinet quartet) Silver; Joey Dierdorf, Brittany Ray, Destiny Pfiel, Caitlyn Jenkins, Allison Miller, Rebecca Rudisell, Connor Hapenny, Kaelyn Shouse, Kayla Tolbert, Jordan Mills, Thomas Champion, Sarah Garvin, Wyatt Baysinger, Laura Lookebill, Pierce Ross, Derek Pleake, Jordyn Price, Austen Bowen, Zene Colson, Nikki Matson (woodwind choir) Gold; , Jami Warner (trumpet) Silver; Natascha Bowles (baritone) Gold; Evan Thiemann, Natascha Bowles, Lucas Alsip, Colte Bicking (trombone quartet) Gold; Josh Wise (tenor drums) Gold; and Josh Wise (snare drum) Gold.

The students were judged in nine different musical categories. A score of 9 to 13.5 earned a Gold rating, 14-18 is a Silver rating, 18.5-22.5 is a bronze rating, and 23 or higher is a participation award.

The following students qualified for the State Solo and Ensemble contest, which will take place Feb. 23, at North Central High School, Indianapolis: Brittany Ray, Joey Dierdorf, Zene Colson, the woodwind choir, Natascha Bowles, Evan Thiemann and Josh Wise.
