Emergency Food Pantry offers report

Sunday, July 21, 2013

To the Editor:

The Clay County Emergency Food Pantry met for lunch at the Brazil Family Restaurant Friday past, with 20 members of the board present.

Reports were given concerning the financial needs of the pantry.

The pantry has been blessed with contributions of financial and produce, pastry items, frozen foods, special personal and household supplies.

We take note of a 26-percent increase in the number of home and individuals who seek assistance.

We would solicit from the community additional help at this time.

Our records indicate we are serving some 40 extra families each month than our previous quarter indicates.

We are very thankful for the generous giving by corporations, churches and individuals.

We would invite other churches to solicit and donate so that this continued demand might be met.

We are open five days a week, from 9 a.m.-noon.

Families and individuals with need may come once a month for assistance.

The public is invited to visit our facility and also to volunteer.

We have several men who assist us during the week with some of the heavy lifting required in stocking.

Other men are welcome.

July is the month of elections for this organization.

George Hewitt announced his resignation as board chairman.

It was agreed the position of chairman be discontinued and the executive director be elected to assume the vacated position.

The name of Ruth Haas was put before the board to elect her to the position of executive director.

Motion was seconded and sanctioned by the vote of the board.

The Clay County Food Pantry is worthy of your support.

George T. Hewitt, retiring chairman,
