Some concerns over trainers

Saturday, September 21, 2013

To the Editor:

Having read the article concerning Northview and Clay City with athletic trainers, I have some concerns.

First of all, it seems from everything that I have heard and read, that Clay City wants to be treated equal.

That should not be the case at all.

These two schools are far from being equal in terms of the number of sports and athletes.

Clay City has no football, boys' soccer, girls' soccer, wrestling, boys' tennis, girls' tennis or girls' golf.

Northview has nearly 250 students participating in athletics. What number does Clay City have? Seventy-five.

Clay City is a Junior/Senior High School. Does that mean that their trainer will be responsible for the junior high sports as well?

North Clay does not have a trainer and they have seventh- and eighth-grade football. Is this fair?

Northview, currently in the fall, has varsity football, junior varsity football, freshmen football, boys' soccer, girls' soccer, volleyball, boys' tennis, girls' golf, boys' cross country and girls' cross country.

From what I have read, Northview will still only have one trainer.

Clay City, currently in the fall, has volleyball, boys' cross country and girls' cross country. Is it fair for the Northview trainer to do seven sports, compared to Clay City's three sports?

It seems to me in the order to be fair, Northview either needs two graduate assistants, one graduate assistant and more pay for the current trainer, or just more money for the current trainer.

Clay City's trainer is actually going to cost the corporation more money than Northview's and will be doing significantly less work.

Everything cannot always be fair. Use common sense based on percentages and number of athletes.

It seems that Clay City always wants whatever Northview has. Stop caving in and make decisions based on need, not want.

They appear to act like the 2-year-old in line wanting a candy bar, crying until they get what they want.
