To the Editor:

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Brazil, I would like to show appreciation to the community members, sponsors, and other community groups that contributed in so many ways to our 79th annual 4th of July Celebration.

Thanks to God, we had perfect weather this year which allowed the food, entertainment, carnival and fireworks to go as planned in beautiful Forest Park.

We had a new 70's and 80's group, Mullet Over, to start our entertainment on Friday, followed by the YMCA Firecracker 5K, Little Miss America Pageant and local dance studios on Saturday.

Other entertainment throughout the week included the wonderful Brazil Concert Band, Brazil Community Choir, Northview Marching Knights and company, the ever popular Van Dell's, and Forever The Tribute Beatles band on the 4th.

Following the best fireworks show ever, our $10,000 raffle ticket winner this year was Brazil native, Susan Shoaf, of Indianapolis.

With the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self" in mind, proceeds from the celebration will be used to help change the lives of those in our community and worldwide.

For instance, last year the support from the community allowed us to provide donations locally to Boy Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Northview and Clay City High School Bands, YMCA, Learning for Life, Shop with a Cop, Community Theatre of Clay County, Clay County Humane Society, Northview and Clay City Scholarships.

Annually, a portion of the funds also goes to The Rotary Foundation that drives worldwide campaigns targeted at the eradication of polio and projects specific to poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition and promoting peace.

Without the community coming together with the Rotary Club of Brazil, this celebration would not be possible. We truly appreciate all the years of community support and hope to continue this tradition for many more.
