Volunteers at local food pantry deserve recognition

To the editor:

I grew up in Brazil and always look forward to coming back "home" to celebrate the holidays. My parents, John and Arlene Tribble, are still very active in the community. My dad is still very active at the Forest Park Golf Course and my mom "volunteers" seven days a week at the Brazil food pantry.

I have traveled home for Thanksgiving over the past several years, and am always amazed at the time and effort that not only my mother volunteers to the food pantry, but to all the volunteers. I don't think anyone realizes these volunteers are there as early as 6:30 a.m. every morning and spend almost a full workday getting everything ready for the needy families of Brazil.

I am amazed at their dedication and commitment to the food pantry.

My mother would be on the younger end of the volunteers, but the oldest would be in her 90's. I know right now they are preparing Christmas hampers for almost 1,000 Clay County residents. This is quite an overwhelming task.

I am not sure that the community understands or appreciates the time and effort that these volunteers contribute to help the less fortunate of Brazil. These volunteers are really amazing and although they don't do this for any kind of recognition, I still think they all deserve a huge thank you from everyone!
