Visiting South Vermillion played the role of spoiler on senior night for the Northview softball team coming away with an 11-3 victory over the Knights.

Northview recognized seniors Tori Tilley, Madison Nevins and Whitney Halfhill between the varsity and junior varsity games. Prior to the varsity contest, Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Assistant Commissioner Sandy Searcy was on hand to present a plaque to Northview Girls' Athletic Director Jan Gambill for her service to the school and to girls' athletics as a coach.

The Wildcats moved a step closer to a conference championship with the win, finishing a perfect 5-0 after banging out 13 hits against the Knights on Tuesday evening.

South Vermillion scored three runs in each of the first two innings to gain the early edge.

In the opening inning, South Vermillion used four singles and a walk to take a 3-0 lead. The Wildcats followed that up with three more runs in the top of the second inning as Carlie Johnson reached on an error. Taylor Andrew followed by slapping a base hit to centerfield. Mallary Clarkson moved both runners over with a sacrifice and Hope Grange smacked a two-run double. Ariel Spivey followed with an RBI single to put the Wildcats on top 6-0.

Northview got a pair of runs back in its half of the second inning when Halfhill drew a lead off walk and Tilley hit a single to centerfield. Ally Erst moved both runners into scoring position with a bunt and Gwen Reynolds drove in a run with a ground out. Emily McWilliams followed with an RBI single.

Stacy Payton got the Knights within 6-3 in the third inning when she ripped a line drive home run off the top of the fence in right centerfield. The round tripper was Payton's eighth of the season and fourth in the last five games.

From there however, South Vermillion's Andrew kept the Knights off the scoreboard as her squad added on with five more runs to gain the win.

Tilley had two base hits for the Knights, Parker Spears had a hit and McWilliams had a walk to go with her RBI base hit. Halfhill walked and singled.

Northview drops to 6-14 overall and finishes 2-3 in the conference. South Vermillion improves to 12-4 overall and finishes 5-0 in the Western Indiana Conference.
