Resident has questions about food pantry

To the editor:

I went to the Food Pantry in the Senior Center to get some food.

My mother's supply of food consisted of two cans of peas, two cans of cranberry sauce, a package of chicken and a box of cereal and cranberries (diced). They gave me a list of things to choose from. Five vegetables, one meat (the meat was bologna, chicken, hot dogs or hamburger).

That is not enough food for a month. No wonder the people go to several food pantries. What happened to all the food that they get from the Catholic Charities?

Stand together for those who toil

To the editor::

Many of my ancestors came to Indiana in order to work. they worked in mines, in fields and factories -- they were paid a wage that was adequate to raise a family and even though they weren't rich, they enjoyed the abundance of life. These are people who worked so hard that it an accurately be described as "toil."

Friday the 24th of July represented the 6th anniversary of the last time that the minimum raise was raised in this state -- that was the last time the minimum wage was adjusted for inflation or other economic factors.

There are people still today whose work is toil but one big difference is that the people who toil today do not make enough to raise their families, pay their bills, to take care of themselves and their loved ones. Other states are raising the wage left and right, Republicans and Democrats all voting for a livable wage.

If you agree that those who toil deserve better, let's stand together for those who continue to toil.

Man gives thanks to person at Craig Park

To the editor::

I would like to thank the nice lady who stopped to help me at Craig Park on Monday.

I'm so sorry I didn't get your name. I want to thank you. The world would be a better place if there were more people like you.

Food pantry appreciates continuous support

To the editor::

The Clay County Emergency Food Pantry would like to thank everyone for their support in providing food, clothes, toiletry items, toys to help provide a meal or put clothes on somebody's back and provide items so they can feel good about themselves.

We never have too much food or items to help people out, and we can always use volunteer workers. Many have helped out for over 10 to 15 years.

The constant theme the tireless volunteers hear from new volunteers is, "I didn't realize what great things are being done there."

So if you ever want to stop by and see what is going on please stop in and visit us.

We also have a shed that you can drop off items like clothes or books or toys. We do not accept TVs. We are open Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 a.m.

If you have any extra canned goods, flour, sugar, toilet paper, baby diapers, we are always in need of these items, and we will make sure the people of Clay County will be taken care of.

If you have any questions, please stop by or call 812-446-2293.

Mike Robinson,

chief executive officer
