Northview choirs as good as gold in competition

Friday, May 6, 2016

The Northview High School Knight Singers Mixed Choir (at right, top) and the Advanced Women's Chorale (at right, bottom) both recently competed at the Indiana State School Music Association's Group 1 State Qualification choir contest April 29. Considered the highest and most difficult level of contest in which choirs can compete in Indiana, both choirs received GOLD ratings and the scores were high enough for each choir to be named ISSMA "With Distinction" choirs for 2015-16. According to NHS Choir Director Brenda Butler's knowledge, this is the first time the NHS choirs have ever received this kind of award at this level of performance/contest. During the upcoming NHS Choir Spring Sing Concert, the students will again perform their contest music in addition to some choreographed selections. The event will take place in the NHS Auditorium Thursday, May 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $3 for the performance.
