Adamsonís Fabric Care Service

In 1948, Fred Adamson opened his first laundry centered business, Adamsonís Fabric Care Services, at the corner of Franklin and National avenues. The dry cleaner remained in business at this location until 1956 when Fred was able to purchase a new building and move the business to the corner of National and Chicago avenues. In the late 1950ís - early 1960ís, Fred opened two coin-operated laundromats, the first located at 711 East National Avenue and the second at 610 West National Avenue, adjacent to the dry cleaning plant.

Fredís son, Mark, became more involved in the running of Adamsonís Dry cleaning as he grew. The business grew as well and offered more than cleaning of laundry. It also offered laundry services of draperies and shirts, alterations of clothes, uniform rental, and garment storage. It was a time when a customer could bring in their heavy winter coats, often made of wool, and Adamsonís would put the garments on moth-proof bags and store them at the dry cleaner for the summer months. Adamsonís also offered Walk Off brand floor mats and dust control mops, as well as carpet cleaning.

In 1994, Adamsonís sold the Walk Off mats and dust control mops and the uniform rental division. The dry cleaning business and the west end plant ceased operations in 2007. Times changed and so did the laundry habits of the residents of Brazil. Dry clean only garments became less of a popular item and the use of home washer and dryers prompted the closing of the dry cleaning business and the west end coin operated laundromat in 2008. All business operations moved to the east coin operated laundry, still located at 711 E National. It was a sad day in June of 2012 when Fred Adamson passed away. In the years since, Mark has constantly made improvements to the facility and the equipment at the east end laundromat. Heís proud to call Brazil his home and honored to continue to offer the services of Adamsonís Fabric Care to the residents of Brazil and the surrounding communities.
