CLAY COUNTY THROUGH THE YEARS: Amos W. Hedge, an early pioneer

Amos W. Hedge, born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1796, immigrated to Columbus, Ohio, in his childhood. In 1816, he came to Wabash County, Indiana, then to Harrison County, where he married Jane Wright. In 1834, he came to Clay County purchasing 40 acres on the west side of Birch Creek in the Witty neighborhood. He lived there until he bought the Levi Cromwell place on the east side of the creek, which was later owned and occupied by A. H. Wright.
