Veterans Day ceremony planned at courthouse
Since Nov. 11, 1918, when word was received that the Germans signed the Armistice thus ending World War I, Clay County residents, including veterans of many conflicts, and the Jackson Township Community Band, have gathered at the Clay County Courthouse to pay respect for the service and sacrifices of America’s Armed Forces.
Originally called Armistice Day, Nov. 11 evolved into Veterans Day with the addition of World War II and the Korean War by 1954. Today, Veterans Day honors veterans of all American history both in war and in times of peace.
On Nov. 11, the Jackson Township Community Band, led by Matthew S. Huber, will be in concert at 10:15 a.m. with a ceremony of traditions by the American Legion Post #2 with Commander Randy Kaelber following the musical tribute.
The public is invited to attend this time-honored event.
