Elizabeth “Betty” Anne Evans
Elizabeth “Betty” Anne Evans, 98, of Harmony, Indiana passed away while living at Cloverleaf Health Care in Knightsville, Indiana February 13, 2017.
Betty was born at Union Hospital, in Terre Haute, Indiana December 22, 1918 the daughter of Otto Gage and Mabel (Owens) Moore. Betty graduated from Van Buren High School as Valedictorian at the age of 16 ˝. In the fall of 1935 she started college at Indiana State Teachers College where she majored in business with a minor in art. She married her high school sweetheart Nelson Evans March 23, 1941. Nelson was drafted into the United States Army in 1942 and was stationed at Camp Murphy Florida. Betty joined him there and began working in the Training Literature Building. Following Nelson’s discharge from the military in 1946 they returned back to Clay County, Indiana and began raising family. Betty and Nelson raised 2 children: James and Susan. Betty waited to return to the workforce until her children were grown. In 1969 she went to work for Pell Roofing and Siding as their bookkeeper – she worked there for nearly 22 years.
She was a member of the Harmony United Methodist Church, the Thursday Afternoon Club and more recently was involved in Thai Chi at the YMCA of Clay County and playing Crossword puzzles.
She was preceded by her parents Mabel and Roy Moore; husband Nelson Evans; brothers-in-law Gerald Evans and Roy Evans Jr.; sisters-in-law Josephine Shuck, Mary Evans, and Margaret Deal.
Betty is survived by her son James Evans and wife Anne of Indianapolis, Indiana; her daughter Susan Pell and husband Chris of Brazil, Indiana; grandchildren: Jeremy Evans and wife Ginger, Jessica Merrick and husband Ben, Brady Pell and wife Heather, Stace Pell, Nicholas Pell and wife Chris of Terre Haute; great-grandchildren: Quinn Shotwell, Trey Pell, Stormy Evans, Carly Parker and husband Eric, Alex Shotwell, Natalie Merrick, Bailey Pell, Cade Pell, Evan Merrick, Allison Pell, and Camryn Pell; brothers-in-law Richard Evans and wife Pat and Phillip Evans; sister-in-law Norma Childress as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
She was a loving, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be so sadly missed.
Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 East National Ave Brazil, Indiana 47834, Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 5-8pm. Services will be at the funeral home, Sunday, at 2:00pm with Pastor Mark Mullinix officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
