Letter to the Editor

Trump derangement syndrome vs. reality

Monday, February 20, 2017

To the editor:

A recent letter to the editor contained the suggestion that “Trump wants to provoke terror attacks at home or abroad to gain emergency powers.” That sounds a lot like Trump derangement syndrome.

If we are concerned that American Muslims will not be willing to cooperate with law enforcement, then we should remind them that people of all faiths die in terrorist attacks, including hundreds of Muslims who died during 9/11. We can also provide proof that ISIS has killed more Muslims than members of any other religion. In fact ISIS has killed thousands of Muslims across the Middle East.

The idea that Trump’s stance on temporarily pausing travel for Nationals from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia will put our troops in Mideast countries at risk makes me wonder who thinks they have not already been at risk for decades. The 1993 Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia (“Black Hawk Down”) occurred under Clinton’s command, with Osama bin Laden denigrating the administration’s decision to prematurely depart the region, stating that it displayed “the weakness, feebleness and cowardliness of the US soldier.” In 2012, under Obama’s administration, we lost our US Ambassador to Libya and multiple highly decorated heroic Americans who fought valiantly for “13 hours in Benghazi” without backup.

I can assure you that the terrorists realize that this is indeed a “war of civilizations” because they are the ones who have declared that war, and they identified America as their enemy long before Trump ever announced his decision to run for President. Only naive Americans fail to realize that the war on terrorism IS a war of civilizations, and that we will NOT win it by rolling over or playing nice.

Radical Islamic terrorist have publicly declared that their goal is to establish a global Caliphate … and they will not stop their barbaric massacres of moderate Muslims (along with anybody else who stands in their way) until they have either achieved their goal or they have been annihilated by stronger forces. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2674736/ISIS-militants-declare-formation...
