Clay City dominates triangular meet

CLAY CITY — Clay City swept a pair of triangular cross country meets on its home course Tuesday evening.

The boys took the top-four spots on the way to a team score of 16 points. Sullivan placed second with 56 followed by North Central’s 68 points.

The Clay City girls tallied 22 points to edge Sullivan’s 34 with North Central also not fielding a complete squad.

The Eel boys are ranked eighth in the small school poll by and dominated the meet against the visiting squads. Kyle Wolf cruised home with the individual victory in 18:21 followed by Calvin Fry’s runner-up time of 18:57. Eli Hostetler placed third (19:12) and Gabe Donnar was fourth in 19:23. Jacob LaFary’s sixth-place finish (20:20) wrapped up the Eels’ team scoring.

Alexis Laswell and Lauren Thomas ran stride-for-stride during the first mile before Laswell broke away to win in 20:54. Thomas would place second in 22:58 with Lauryn Myers racing to fourth in 25:36 for the winning Eels.

The Eels also got a top-10 run from Hayleigh Tener (7th, 26:46) and Tara Arthur (8th, 26:49.

Clay City hosts an invite on Thursday evening at 5 p.m.
