Clay City boys second in invite, Laswell victorious

CLAY CITY — Clay City’s boys’ cross country team came out second in its invitational Thursday evening and junior Alexis Laswell won the individual title for the girls. South Putnam’s boys were able to edge past the Eels 43 to 47 in the nine-team battle. Edgewood was third with 56 points.

Edgewood’s Austin Haskett easily captured the boys’ win, crossing the finish line 40 seconds in front of Clay City’s Kyle Wolf. Haskett finished with a time of 16:53. Wolf finished in 17:34.

The Eels placed Calvin Fry (fourth, 17:45) and Gabe Donnar (10th, 18:24) in the top-10 but South Putnam was able to pick up the team win by four points.

In the girls’ meet, Laswell finished in 19:44 to claim the win over Shakamak’s Jacy Collins by 10 seconds. Edgewood’s girls set out to run in a tighter pack in preparation for today’s participation in the Eagle Classic at Brown County. Edgewood freshman Annalyssa Crain placed third while helping pull her teammates closer in a pack.

Clay City’s Lauren Thomas was 12th with Lauryn Myers in 33rd and Tara Arthur was 34th.

The Eels will compete in the Northview Invite on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
