Northview's soccer teams had decidedly different contests against visiting Edgewood on a cloudy and occasionally drizzly Tuesday evening.

The Northview girls fell in an early hole before turning up the fire in a 7-2 victory against the Mustangs. The Northview boys weren't able to overcome a first half goal by Edgewood in a 1-0 defeat.

Edgewood put the Knights in a quick hole on a cool and overcast evening.

The Mustangs were awarded an early penalty kick and capitalized as senior Carly Bennett scored. Moments later it was Elizabeth Montgomery slipping a pass to freshman Ava Land for a 2-0 lead just four minutes into the match.

The Knights finally got their legs under them and turned up the pressure against the Mustangs the rest of the half. The goals started coming quickly as the Knights scored four times in the final 10 minutes of the half on the way to the victory.

Maggie Lackey recorded a hat trick to lead the scoring. However, junior Amaya Jones posted a pair of goals and added three assists while firing off seven shots. Kassidy Kellett and Grace Nicosin each had a goal and assists came from Skylar Reitsma, Kellett, Nicosin and Mercedes Hoke. Sarah Bryan added three assists in the victory.

Sydney Brock had five saves in net for the Knights and Northview piled up 22 shots on goal.

The Knights recognized senior Cheyenne Markey.

The Northview girls are now 7-2 overall and travel to Southmont on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m.

In the boys' game, Edgewood got a goal with 10 minutes left in the first half from Grant Raake and rode a strong defensive effort to a victory.

The Knights produced 10 shots in the loss, but couldn't find the equalizer during the second half.
